  • Much more intellectual honesty, moral courage and humane action is needed. We are about to become a species of 7 billion overconsumers, overproducers and overpopulaters on a finite and frangible planet where its resources are dissipating and environs degrading rapidly.

During my lifetime, when human numbers explode from less than 3 bn to 7+ bn worldwide, many experts may not have known enough about what they were talking about when they spoke of human population dynamics and all causes of the human overpopulation of Earth. Their research appears not to be scientific, but rather issues from ideological or totalitarian thinking, or from specious group-think consensus. Their all-too-attractive thinking, as viewed by greedmongers, is willfully derived from what is politically convenient, economically expedient, socially agreeable, religiously tolerable and culturally prescribed. Widely broadcast and long-accepted thinking of a surprisingly large number of so-called experts in the field of population dynamics appears to have an unscientific foundation and is likely wrong. Their preternatural theorizing about the population dynamics of the human species appears to be both incomplete and misleading. Most disturbing of all, a widely shared and consensually validated theory about a “demographic transition” four decades from now is directly contradicted by unchallenged scientific research. As a consequence, and it is a pernicious consequence, a woefully inadequate thinking and fundamentally flawed theory was broadcast during my lifetime and continues to be broadcast everywhere by the mainstream media as if it is not only science but the best available scientific evidence. The implications of this unfortunate behavior, inasmuch as it appears to be based upon a colossal misperception of what could somehow be real regarding the human population, appear profound. This failure of nerve has slowed the momentum needed to confront a formidable, human-driven global predicament.

In their elective mutism regarding an astonishing error, are first class professional researchers with expertise in population dynamics behaving badly by allowing the “ninety-nine percenters” to be misguided and led down a primrose path by the “one percenters”? The power of silence on the part of knowledgeable human beings with feet of clay is dangerous because research is being denied that appears to shed light upon a dark, non-recursive biological problem, the understanding of which appears vital to future human well being and environmental health. Too many experts appear to be ignoring science regarding the human population and instead consciously through their silence consenting to the leviathan scale and unbridled expansion of global overproduction, overconsumption and overpopulation activities that are being adamantly advocated and relentlessly pursued by greedmongering masters of the universe, the tiny minority among us who are primarily responsible for ravaging the Earth, ruining its environs and reducing its fitness for habitation by the children. If this assessment of human behavior is indeed a fair representation of what is happening on our watch, then the desire to preserve the status quo, mainly the selfish interests of ‘the powers that be’, could be at least one basis for so much intellectually dishonest and morally bereft behavior. Could it be that the outrageous per capita overconsumption, large-scale corporate overproduction and unrestricted overpopulation activities of the human species worldwide cannot continue much longer on a planet with the size, composition and ecology of a finite and frangible planet like Earth?

For human beings to count human population numbers is simple, really simple. The population dynamics of human beings with feet of clay are obvious and fully comprehensible. We have allowed ourselves to be dazzled by the BS of too many demographers just the way human beings have been deceived and victimized by a multitude of economists on Wall Street. Demographers and economists are not scientists. ‘The brightest and the best’ have sold their souls to greedmongers, duped the rest of us, made it difficult to see what is real, proclaimed what is known to be knowable as unknowable, engaged in the their own brands of alchemy. In their dishonest and duplicitous efforts to please the self-proclaimed masters of the universe, also known as the keepers of the ‘golden calf’ (a symbol now easily visible as the “raging bull” on Wall Street), they perpetrate frauds at everyone else’s expense, threaten the children’s future, put life as we know it at risk, and are consciously, deliberately, actively precipitating the destruction of Earth as a fit place for human habitation. Never in the course of human events have so few taken so much from so many and left so little for others.

There are many too many overly educated “wise guys” among us who see the blessed world we inhabit through the lens of their own hubris and selfishness, and see themselves somehow as Homo sapiens sapiens and masters of the universe, as corporate kings and emperor’s with clothes. They supposedly are the brightest and best, the smartest guys in the room, like the guy who used to run the global political economy without recognizing that there was an “ideological flaw” in his economic theories and models, the same guy who reported he could not name 5 guys smarter than himself. These are guys who have denied science, abjectly failed humanity, forsaken life as we know it, the Earth and God. These ideologues rule the world now and can best be characterized by their malignant narcissism, pathological arrogance, extreme foolishness, addiction to risk-taking and wanton greed.

  • An apocalyptic end to world’s biggest bubble – the five horsemen – By Paul B. Farrell, MarketWatch full article at
Bill McKibben, Horseman: ‘Damage done. Already be too late’

Last year environmental economist and eco-activist Bill McKibben wrote in Foreign Policy magazine: “Act now, we’re told, if we want to save the planet from a climate catastrophe. Trouble is, it might be too late. The science is settled, and the damage has already begun. The only question now is whether we will stop playing political games and embrace the few imperfect options we have left.”

Paul Gilding, Horseman: ‘Forget global warming. Brace for impact!’

After 30 years of “screaming” to get the public’s attention, former Greenpeace CEO Paul Gilding admitted in his new book, “The Great Disruption,” that he finally just gave up. Nothing was working: “We tried. We failed.” Today he has no illusions anything will stop the catastrophe dead ahead.

His message is simple: “It’s time to stop worrying about climate change. Instead we need to brace for impact.” This is “not a doom and gloom prediction, but an inevitable physical reality.” Brace for impact folks.

Bill Gates, Horseman: World’s biggest philanthropist has surrendered

Last year Gates said if he had “one wish to improve humanity’s lot over the next 50 years it would be an “energy miracle,” a magical “new technology that produced energy at half the price of coal with no carbon dioxide emissions.” A year earlier Gates and a large group of billionaires agreed that the world’s biggest problem was population. Yet, oddly, Gates Foundation focuses on neither, may actually be accelerating the population bubble.

Jeremy Grantham, Horseman: Population ‘threatens long-term viability of species’

Grantham manages over $100 billion. He predicted the 2008 meltdown years in advance. Now sees danger in the population explosion calling it an “inevitable mismatch between finite resources and exponential population growth.” He expects a “bubble-like explosion of prices for raw materials.” Then commodity shortages will become a huge “threat to the long-term viability of our species when we reach a population level of 10 billion,” making “it impossible to feed the 10 billion people.”

At 7 billion, the Earth already has two billion people too many. And we’re adding 75 million more each year. Meanwhile scientists warn that Earth’s natural resources can reasonably support roughly 5 billion people. Yes, we’re already 2 billion over Earth’s carrying capacity, deep in denial and headed into a disaster. Likely “population reducers?” Forget voluntary birth control. Only wars, famine and starvation.

Jared Diamond, Horseman: A nation in denial collapses very fast

“One of the disturbing facts of history is that so many civilizations collapse,” warns Jared Diamond, in “Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed.” Many “share a sharp curve of decline” that often begins “only a decade or two after it reaches its peak population, wealth and power.” Why? Leaders are in denial, unprepared, like many of today’s senators and presidential candidates who say climate change is a hoax.

Diamond’s two-decades-to-collapse warning coincided with an even darker Pentagon report analyzed in Fortune eight years ago: “Climate could change radically and fast. That would be the mother of all national security issues” Unrest would create “massive droughts, turning farmland into dust bowls and forests to ashes … by 2020 there is little doubt that something drastic is happening … As the planet’s carrying capacity shrinks, an old pattern could emerge; warfare defining human life … an ancient pattern of desperate, all-out wars over food, water, and energy supplies would emerge. ” Warning, the 2020 plot line is accelerating.

‘Population Bubble,’ biggest bubble in history must inevitably pop

Scientific American warns that population is “the most overlooked and essential strategy for achieving long-term balance with the environment.” Yet, the whole world’s in denial, delaying.

Today, First World citizens consume 32 times more resources and put out 32 times more waste than Third World citizens. And now they all want our lifestyle.

Yes, by 2050 the American dream will be the Global dream, exhausting the world’s natural resources. In fact, if all nations consumed resources at the same rate as America today, we’d need six Earths just to survive today.

Fast forward to 2050 and a population of 10 billion. Warning: In our silence today, we are committing suicide tomorrow.

steve, even though i knew approximately the meaning of the phrase ‘feet of clay’ u’re so fond of, i decided to look up it’s precise meaning. it’s actually a pretty apt phrase to use in our context i think now, considering it’s taken me about a 1/2 century of living to come to the dramatic surrealization that sheople by and large are completely full of shit about so many things many take for granted. there’s no good explanation for why this took so long for me, or why for the vast majority it seems they never surrealize just how full of shit they and the ‘authorities’ they place their trust in are. feet of clay, indeed.

Marine, Navy, Army and Airforce Veterans and Police Vow to Protect Innocent Protesters

In response to the police brutality against peaceful American protesters – here, here, here, here, here and here – military and police groups are forming to protect American citizens.

In fact, many in the military support the protests (and see this).

As of today, OccupyMarines, Occupy Police, Occupy Navy, Occupy Airforce, and Occupy Army have formed to protect the people against police brutality.

After Veterans for Peace member Scott Olsen – a Marine Corps veteran twice deployed to Iraq – was critically wounded in the Occupy Oakland protest, Occupy Marines tweeted:

WHEN YOU SHOOT ONE MARINE, YOU SHOOT AT ALL OF US. OORAH. Do It Peacefully Occupy We Stand In Solidarity

  • Kathy C

This could cause TPTB to lose the support of their enforcers. This is not going to end soon or easily. This is not something the sociopaths foresaw. Use your imagination.

  • New post includes a few reviews and an embedded trailer for the memoir

  • Right on Curtis! In fact my husband found this one tonight

Jean Quan in Oakland BACKS DOWN
This is rather incredible. Oakland Mayor Jean Quan released a statement late last night saying she now supports the Occupy Oakland protesters and will minimize police presence for the time being.

Do check the link – it has her full statement

Looks like we are going to have some interesting times before the oil runs out….

  • When the 1% can not get their underlings to do their dirty work they are through. I consider the mayors (Bloomberg – mayor of Wall Street), Governors (Cumo, another Don), to operate with the same mind as Gadhafi. They give lip service to and pretend to support democracy. Just so long as they can successfully sell us bullshit. The buyers are deserting them. Now we will see what they really think.

  • The Empire is looking a bit vulnerable.

“In response to the police brutality against peaceful American protesters – here, here, here, here, here and here – military and police groups are forming to protect American citizens.”

    “Protect peaceful protesters”

Can’t hear this any more, has been used for all this wars to kill mounting numbers of people. Nato says in future it won’t have to rely on UN approval to “protect”, they are such good a people they know meanwhile themselves where and who and how to “protect”. They are criminals of the worst kind.
How is the military going to protect Americans, the same way they are killing in so many coutries now?

I don’t trust them a bit, not the least.

  • Kathy

One more, Germanys Merkel was very happy when the US killed bin Laden,
US Clinton is very happy when people get killed. We are ruled by maniacs, maybe because so many of us, the “99” are maniacs as well.
But who am I telling this ;-)

  • Bernhard, I believe the people the article was talking about was not THE MILITARY, but individual soldiers, many out of service now. These are the Veterans for Peace type people. I think the author of the article didn’t make that clear. The ex marine who was shot in oakland was peacefully protesting, as vids that have come out now show. What is noteworthy is that it may be that our soldiers and ex soldiers are seeing the light, but of course the military itself never will.

  • Kathy C
Recently wanted to reply when you told about the protests your husband
was involved and how people mainly where protesting for their own – whatever. But NOT being able to feel with others.
Think some time ago you brought a link to “The Authoritarians” by Bob Altemayer. Stored here I finally came to read it. It explains why and how “we” are acting. Doing the “test” I scored 23, 23 because a couple questions I didn’t want to agree the conclusion within. (Atheists are as good as church people – didn’t want to agree with church people good etc.)
Although think questions for Europeans would look a little different, I didn’t need that test, but it finally got to explain a bit more about that life long struggle with being different, in this adding a little confidence in me being me ;-)
Back to veterans being peace activists. Good on one part, but again how come so many people only learn to feel with others – they have to go through same adverse, horrifying experiences personally, see the blood and pain in wars, starve to understand the starving, be poor to understand the situation of poor and so on, to finally get the idea?
What is it that makes mankind so willingly blind?
I consider this a disease, wide spread illness passed on generation after generation in ill treating its own offspring. Prescotts work – it is so obvious to me.

  • altemayer’s work can be summed up thusly: we live in a culture where leaders are liars and followers are fools, by and large. i agree with bernhard. military and especially police are dominated by authoritarian personalities. don’t count on them to en masse desert their masters. they are mostly brainwashed to do their bidding and believe their propaganda.

  • Nonetheless, it helps the cause to show vets standing with the others. In Vietnam the vets that turned were mostly draftees. In this case none are draftees. It will be harder for them to be discounted. Of course the right wing military is always up to the task. I posted an interview with Brian Wilson, a vietnam vet who turned while still in the military. He lost his parents because of it, and later lost both legs while sitting on railroad tracks to protest a train carrying weapons. While the authoritarian bullshit is deeply embedded, the multiple deployments and and lack of benefits upon return are surely biting deeply into their trust of those in power.

In Haiti the police were well in hand, but they had only to compare their salaries to that of the people to stay loyal. The police and military here have no such benefit and have often been paid much less than the general public. I think we may have more to fear from the Blackwater thugs than anyone in the regular military for they are well paid mercenaries.
