Peer-Reviewed Paper: Near-Term Loss of Habitat for Homo sapiens

The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what’s true.

I was invited by the Executive Editor of the Journal of Natural Sciences, an open-access publication, to submit a paper in mid-May, 2020. I submitted a paper on 29 May 2020 based on my earlier work in this space.

After reviews and revisions, “Near-Term Loss of Habitat for Homo sapiens” was accepted for publication on 8 July 2020 and scheduled for publication in the 31 July 2020 issue of Journal of Natural Sciences. After several delays, I wrote to the email address of the person listed as Editor on the relevant website on 25 November 2020 (cf. Executive Editor). The Editor responded to tell me the journal is a scam housed in Bangladesh, beyond his legal grasp (and mine).

On 25 November 2020, I revised the paper and submitted it to the Journal of Earth Environmental Science Research & Reviews for its December, 2020 issue. I have developed a good relationship with this journal and its Managing Editor. The paper was peer-reviewed and subsequently published on 9 December 2020. The abstract is copied below, and the full paper is here.

Earth is in the midst of abrupt, irreversible climate change. The current global-average temperature of Earth is the highest ever with Homo sapiens present, and there is no known way to stabilize or reduce the planetary temperature. I describe a few means by which habitat for humans could be lost in the near future.

I have earned no money, nor will I earn money, for this article. As is customary, there were significant page charges attendant to having the paper published. In this case, I paid them twice. I explained the process of peer review in this space more than two years ago.

Indeed, they have returned far less money than it cost to create and distribute them. I list them at the bottom of posts in this space in support of my artistically inclined partner, who created them.
