Subscribing is now available

After conversing with guy, and getting the level of spam down to a manageable level, Guy has agreed to implement subscribers on the forum.

This will allow regular contributors to sign in and avoid the Captcha for every comment.  It should also  mean that we don’t get litigate comments from regular users caught in the spam filter.

Registration required admin approval.  Before I could even test it, a spammer tried to register!

Users will be “approved” after they have contributed a few posts “from outside” – I’ll do a comment search for the user name and if it does not appear at least a few times, the registration will be denied.

Users do not have to register – it’s a service for regular users but people can remain anonymous and use the captcha each time.

Registered users will have to complete a captcha when they log in, but while they are logged in, it’s not needed.

The most prolific spammers cannot get to the register page, blocked by the rest of the anti-spam software recently upgraded.

Register/login  here:

http://guymcpherson.com/wp-login.php

And use the register link below the login, or try this one:

http://guymcpherson.com/wp-login.php?action=register

Currently that screen is not publicized to cut down on fake attempts.

Then be patient!

The admins may not get to the approval screen immediately, and for most users, we’ll need to check you’re a regular.  I want to avoid spammers and those ideologically opposed to the concept of NTHE from posting a few sound-bites, registering, then causing disruption.

The back-end forum is currently far more open, and we’re only blocking spammers, if you want to argue the reality of NTHE, do so back there, everyone on the “front end blog” has heard it a hundred times already.

If you have never commented, please post a comment before you register, saying hello, and indicating you are familiar with the concepts here.  That way we know it’s not a spamming program trying to register.
